3D Product Animation for Amazon & Shopify: A Buyer’s Guide
Choose product videos, listing renders and useful feature views for your store. Learn what to brief, what affects cost and how to measure results.
A good product visual answers a buyer’s question. What does the finish look like? How large is the product? What happens inside it? Before commissioning a CGI film, decide which of those questions your existing listing leaves unanswered.
A 3D render is a still image made from a digital model. A product animation adds camera movement, component motion or a demonstration. Both can reuse the same model, but they solve different needs.
Choose the output around the buying decision
- Clean packshots: use these when customers need a consistent view of the product, packaging and colour options.
- Detail renders: show materials, controls, closures or small components that are difficult to see in an overall shot.
- Exploded views: explain an assembly or internal mechanism when that information helps a buying decision.
- Lifestyle scenes: show the product in a relevant environment, while keeping its proportions and intended use accurate.
- Short product videos: demonstrate a sequence or feature that needs movement to make sense.
You may need a small set of useful still images before you need a cinematic commercial. Browse our product visualization service and product animation service to compare the scope.
Check the destination before production
Amazon requirements vary by marketplace, category, account eligibility and placement. Confirm the current requirements inside your seller account before approving an image or video brief. A delivery format alone does not guarantee that a marketplace will accept an asset. Do not assume that a 3D render can replace photography wherever photography is required.
If you need a listing image set, our Amazon product rendering page explains packshots, feature compositions and the information needed to estimate the work.
For Shopify, product media support and presentation depend on your theme and setup. Shopify’s product media documentation covers images, video and 3D models. Agree the supported format with the person maintaining your storefront; then test the uploaded result on a phone.
What to send in your brief
- Your product link or a short description of the product and its buyer.
- CAD files if available, plus dimensions and photographs from several angles.
- Final label artwork, brand colours and packaging references.
- The questions your current images do not answer.
- An asset list: required stills, scenes, animation length, formats and variants.
- Your intended platforms, launch deadline and review contact.
Reference videos help communicate a style. Explain what you like about the reference: the camera, lighting, pacing or way it explains a feature. That is more useful than asking for a complete copy of another brand’s film.
What changes the cost?
The main cost drivers are modelling work, material detail, the number of shots, environments, moving parts, simulation work, revisions and output versions. A turntable using an approved model has a different scope from a new model with several mechanisms and fluid simulation.
Ask what is included in a quote: storyboard, product-accuracy review, review rounds, animation, sound, rendering, final formats and any source-file handover. Our CGI cost guide explains how to compare proposals without relying on a generic price range.
Measure the result without assuming a sales uplift
A new video does not guarantee more orders. Compare the relevant product-page engagement, add-to-cart rate and conversion rate over a useful period. Account for changes to price, advertising, stock and traffic source. If possible, test one change at a time.
For your enquiry flow, measure visits to the service page and WhatsApp link clicks. A WhatsApp click shows contact intent; it does not prove that a person sent a message or became a client.
Start with a scoped conversation
Send a product link, the assets you need and your deadline. We can then identify whether the next step is a packshot set, feature animation or a broader launch film.
